Some years, its just strangely difficult getting an artpack together for
release. I know, that sounds a little weird coming from the crew of Mistigris
AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! misfits who somehow managed to squeeze in 13 monthly
packs for three years running our secret was, and dont tell anyone: reckless
violation of all known social norms, but in the wake of the pandemic we tried
to slow things down and release with a little more care while our bridges
and the world was burning. Did we succeed? The packs may or may not be a
bit more considered and careful now, but certainly their pace is quite a bit
slower! Its funny, because their planned schedule is actually very dense and
crowded, AND the artists keep on selfishly j/k! making art, but somehow
sometimes putting more work into an artpack doesnt necessarily bring it any
closer to release. As releasing artpacks is no longer the popular pastime it
once was, this is, admittedly, a discussion that can only be held with
vanishingly few individuals at this moment in time and is consequently
perhaps not the subject that I should be making the main matter of our
newsletter -- but my homies in Blocktronics will know what Im talking
about. Camera pans to his alleged homies in Blocktronics, all desperately
trying to avoid having their gaze met. I dont, like, know him, but our
reasons for not getting an artpack together for release are totally
different from his reasons for not getting an artpack together for
release. And, of course, they are.
OK, so lets try kicking off this newsletter again. Welcome to our second
unthemed artpack of the year, and only our third Mistigris
AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! release overall in 2023! The themed ones -- yes, we
have plurals of them, all well underway -- have gotten bogged down in a
quagmire of curation and brass tacks, but when in doubt you can always invite
everyone to share some of the material theyve been working on recently for
their own purposes and you can usually manage to coax an artpack out of a
Stone Soup dinner party. Ask me about my Artropolis story someday!
The major development this time around is that Mavenmob has put the brakes on
his game development lifestyle to focus on a single discipline for a while --
in this case, visual art. The substantial body of strong work that resulted
from the change of gear could have well constituted a solo pack on its own he
provided the cake, and the rest of us just iced it.
Who was doing the icing? Well, we have our cast of irregulars, who you can
see all praised in full in the other infofile. But exceptionally, we here
welcome new artists contributing to a Mistigris AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! artpack
for the first time: 60ftatomicman and ConsoleJockey, who arrived in the
company of enthuiastic guest artist Nitron.
As a fun sub-theme this time around or: an excuse to draw something, for
people who hadnt otherwise dropped an f4 block for half a year, we
challenged the folks on our Discord to join in a collaborative ANSI art
celebration of the life of Paul Reubens aka Pee-Wee Herman, an influential and
worthwhile character from our childhood who had been regrettably
under-represented in the annals of ANSI art history thus far. As you have
seen, DW and Cthulu hosted an ANSI reunion of several of the characters from
Pee-Wees Playhouse atop this infofile, and you can also see
harder-to-integrate tributes to the sublime and irritating man-child from
60ftatomicman and Darkman Almighty hilariously processed via the Star Trek
lens through which he views all pop culture.
Congratulations to DosDoc for taking home first place in the Oldschool
Textmode Graphics competition at Moscows Demodulation 2023 demoparty with his
ASCII art exploration of the works of Anton Chekhov! Oh, that old cliche!
You can check it out in this artpack, hopefully setting the stage for another
artpack down the way exclusively featuring art on literary themes. Mist and
lit? An improbable combination, to be sure!
Thanks also to littlebitspace for effortlessly swooping in and endowing us
with Mistigris-AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!-by-way-of-N64 artwork in Mavenmobs
style of the moment for us to harness for FILEID and memberlist iconography.
We have more Mistigris AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! releases upcoming, and you can
find out about them on a wider variety of social media outlets than ever
before! We are boldly heading forth into cyberspace, all of us as rats
fleeing the slowly but surely sinking X, in search of our people. Perhaps you
will find us out there! Granted, if you havent already found us in some
form, odds are that you arent reading this right now, but why not advise you
regarding the new outlets available? Hopefully we can move with momentum
following this release and share a few more of the Mistigris
AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! artpack projects weve been chipping away at all year,
but even if that doesnt happen, well still see you in Blender on the EFNet
IRC the weekend of October 21st for the next installment of that improvised
computer art competition, The Blender!
Until then...
